Ask a Librarian Delaware/Reference Services Training

Ask a Librarian Delaware/Reference Services Training

07/28/2017 - 10:00 AM
Kirkwood Public Library
6000 Kirkwood Highway
Wilmington, Delaware 19808

Come get a refresher or learn as a new provider about how to answer questions using our shared statewide Ask a Librarian Delaware service (using Springshare’s LibAnswers software).  This resource provides email, text and social media options for our Delaware library patrons – so they can ask us questions from where they are online, whenever they want.

When you complete this training, you will know:

  • how to log on and manage your account.
  • how to claim, compose a response to the patron’s question, insert images, make hyperlinks, add tags and Dewey Delaware analytics, and the best option for submitting the question (new, pending, closed).
  • steps for answering as a reference librarian (best practices, including how to compose a great response in the medium the patron used).
  • where to find reliable sources of information online.
  • when and how to add an internal note to the question
  • 3 options for when you don’t know the answer (how and when to transfer the question, how to find previously-answered questions from other providers, and how to access the FAQs).
  • how to find your answered question at a later date

For more about training criteria and what’s covered, see:

Registration is limited to 24 and closes on 6/26.  Please contact Cathay with any questions.
